Day of ‘SEND’ 2025 is coming! Mark your diaries for an epic whole day of learning on Friday 21 March, exclusive to subscribers of Sunshine Academy (and we’ll give you the details on how to become a subscriber if you are not yet one below)
This will be a day covering every topic you could possibly wish to know about. Our team of SEND experts will be joining together for one day only to provide hours of training to take you from confused to confident.
Throughout the course of the day, you’ll get access to eight incredible sessions – you can stay and join in with them all or choose which ones are most relevant for you.

What’s happening on the day…
Here’s the complete rundown of what’s happening on Day of ‘SEND’ – as we said, there’s no limit to how many sessions you choose to attend, all are free to Sunshine Academy subscribers as part of your monthly subscription fee.
9.30am – 11am – SEND and Schools
Join Education Consultant Lindsay Galley and Advocate Emily Fairbrother, both former teachers, to learn more about SEND and schools. This session is ideal for both those new to the SEND system and those who want a bit of a refresher. They’ll be covering what SEND support should look like, what is quality first teaching, what you should expect from the school as a parent, how to gather evidence for an EHC Needs Assessment and once you have an EHCP then how to plan for a positive annual review.
11.30am – 12.15pm – Helping SEND children learn vocabulary at home
Sunshine Advocate Gabby Gregory, a former teacher, will be delivering an interactive session showcasing games and learning strategies that you can use with your child at home.
12.45pm – 2.15pm – Legal Procedures in SEND
Sunshine Legal Advisor Jessica Ward will be sharing her wealth of experience in education law. In this session she will be covering all about the EHC progress – the timelines you need to know, what to expect at each stage and, importantly, what yours and your child’s legal rights are. She’ll also be teaching us about Pre-Action Protocol Letters and Judicial Review.
2.45pm – 3.30pm – Social Care and SEND
Nicole Wright, our Social Care specialist Advocate, will be sharing her wealth of experience and giving a really clear picture about the social care process. From disassembling the acronyms to how to be proactive and assertive when social care is involved, this one is really key for anyone facing this situation right now.
4.00pm – 4.45pm – Right to Choose process
Following on from our Facebook Live on 4 March on this topic (which you can join live here: XXX) Advocate Nicola Darby will be going into more detail and taking your questions on the process of right to choose.
5.15pm – 6.15pm EHCPs: Ten Vital Tips
In just one hour, our Head of Advocacy Kelly Jarvis will share with you ten essentials you need to know about EHCPs. The progress that you can make in your understanding in just one hour cannot be underestimated so don’t miss this one.
6.30pm – 7.15pm Q&A with Kelly Jarvis
Kelly will then be staying with us for a Q&A session. As our Head of Advocacy Kelly’s time is highly sought after, she takes on only a few clients and is regularly fully booked. However, in this session, you’ll get the opportunity hear directly from her on a range of issues that you might be struggling with. Join live and you’ll have the opportunity to put your own questions to her via the chat.
7.45pm – 8.30pm – Is my EHC Plan any good?
We end the day with a great session again with Kelly Jarvis. We all fight to our get EHCPs drafted and then reviewed each year but how do we know if they are any good? Kelly will spend the session dissecting and annotating the common pitfalls in both Section B and F of the plan.
